Vladimir Conde Reche

Artistic Associate

“Each new work grows from the shared experiences of dancers and viewers, turning personal expression into collective reflection. I create not to imitate life, but to reveal its beauty and complexity through movement that bridges the stage and the world beyond.”

A native of São Paulo, Brazil, Vladimir Conde Reche is a dance artist, choreographer, and educator whose work bridges classical and contemporary movement practices. He holds a BFA from The Juilliard School and an MFA in Choreography from the University of Iowa, and is currently a Professor of Dance in the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of New Mexico.

Vladimir’s professional dance career spans over three decades and includes performing with renowned companies such as Cisne Negro Dance Company and Ballet Stagium, as well as collaborations with artists and institutions across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa. His artistic journey has taken him to countries including Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Colombia, England, Germany, Italy, Mongolia, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, South Africa, the United States, and Uruguay. A formative experience in his career was a workshop with Ohad Naharin and the Batsheva Dance Company in Israel, where he immersed himself in the expressive and physical depth of the Gaga movement language.

Rooted in a strong foundation of ballet, Graham, Limón, and Taylor techniques, Vladimir’s teaching integrates traditional and contemporary forms, focusing on movement efficiency, clarity, and expressive potential. His classes emphasize functionality, flow, and inclusivity—offering dancers a framework that accommodates a wide range of bodies and artistic voices while preparing them for the evolving landscape of today’s performance world.

As a choreographer, Vladimir has created an extensive body of work for both students and professionals, spanning contemporary, ballet, and theatrical genres. His creative process thrives on collaboration, working closely with composers, designers, and multimedia artists to craft performances that are visually and emotionally resonant. His choreography often explores the intersection between movement, music, and social dialogue, inviting audiences to engage with contemporary issues through both traditional and experimental languages of dance.

Vladimir’s Brazilian heritage deeply informs his artistic voice. The country’s cultural richness and spirit of individuality infuse his work with vitality and openness. He continues to explore this influence through movement that celebrates freedom, community, and cross-cultural exchange.

Alongside his stage work, Vladimir engages in digital media, incorporating video and sound editing (Final Cut Pro) and digital photography (Photoshop) into his creative process. This multimedia approach allows him to expand the scope of his choreographic research, exploring how technology can enhance performance and pedagogy alike.

As an educator and artist, Vladimir is committed to cultivating intelligent, expressive, and socially engaged dancers. He views the arts as a vital means of understanding and transforming the world, emphasizing creativity, reflection, and embodied knowledge in both his teaching and his artmaking.
